Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
