That Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Fans
Among all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever watched, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced finale of the graphically gory and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker created a grim, melancholy , often savage universe with several minor , forlorn twinges of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a desire to push animation even more, the director explained that it was more an attempt to express a global, multicultural message about “the mutual source of each battle.”
That message is expressed by means of a band of colorful pastel bears , openly based on a well-known line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a society centered on warmongering and the war machine, many of these creatures are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that claims the bears they were once masters of the woodland, before these creatures expelled them.
Some did not entirely accepted the propaganda, , would rather experiment with narcotics and engage sexually in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these bright beings display genitals and definite libidos.
For a certain notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle with the unicorns transforms into a path to control — and especially to dominance above his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , a seeming antisocial figure , and when terror dominates his unit and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he grabs more and more control personally, in increasingly gory, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own horror, in the form of a growing, destructive monster in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director said. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and melancholic film. And by the end, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars begins similar to among the quirky movies from a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in permitting animated figures swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Then it turns into more akin to a darker movie by that same artist, including ever more graphic violence , a palpable link to the actual horror of war.
By the end, it is an outright theatrical horror massacre.
The terror that makes the film an ideal spooky-season viewing starts a lot earlier than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is suited for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of intense movies who desire to see something they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a story which delivers absolutely no punches.
Watch it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the conclusion will dig deep within you and linger.
