This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
